SAN DIEGO (AP) — Brandon Woodruff of the Milwaukee Brewers has a strain in his right shoulder and will be sidelined longer than originally thought, manager Craig Counsell said Saturday. Woodruff was placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with what the team said was inflammation. He had an MRI that revealed a strain under his scapula.Counsell said Woodruff won’t do any throwing until the Brewers return from a road trip that concludes Wednesday at Seattle. Woodruff, an All-Star in 2019 and 2021, is 0-1 with a 0.79 ERA in two starts. “We’ll have the doctors re-examine him when we get back home and hopefully start to nail down a rehab progression and timeline,” Counsell said. “It’s going to be longer than two weeks obviously now. We all want to know and Woody wants to know. “This is a muscle strain. The subscap strains are a little tricky so we’ve got to get him symptom-free and make sure as we start throwing again that nothing flares up,” Counsell ad...G-7 talks may measure allies’ reaction to US documents leak

HANOI (AP) — While the Biden administration sees minimal damage from the disclosure of highly classified documents related to the war in Ukraine and U.S. views of its allies and partners, that assessment will get its first real test when U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken meets in Japan with counterparts from six of America’s closest foreign friends. The three days of talks between the Group of Seven foreign ministers, which begin Sunday, may shed light on whether the disclosure has harmed trust between the allies or is only the latest embarrassment for the U.S, which has been grappling with the fallout from leaks of highly sensitive secrets over the past decade.Blinken said Saturday he had heard no concerns from allies, but the revelations, and the arrest of a relatively low-level suspect in the leaks, will loom over the G-7 meeting, the first major international diplomatic conference since the documents were discovered online and made public.“We have engaged with our allies and...Canada, South Korea launch talks on defence, security intelligence sharing

OTTAWA — Canada and South Korea have launched talks aimed at sharing defence and security information as the two countries work to counter increasing threats from Russia and China. Joly says building on shared priorities with South Korea is part of Canada’s developing Indo-Pacific strategy. She says South Korea is a strong and trusted partner with whom Canada continues to deepen and strengthen its co-operation.In October, Joly announced plans for a similar information-sharing accord with Japan. At the time, she said the exchange of intelligence would help Canada “better counter threats at home while working with partners to create greater stability in the region.”This report by The Canadian Press was first published April 15, 2023.
