BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — The University of Colorado rallied to pull out the win over Colorado State on Saturday night but lost two-way star Travis Hunter when he was taken to a hospital for an evaluation during the third quarter at Folsom Field. The school didn’t immediately announce the reason Hunter was ruled out and transported to a hospital, but he absorbed an illegal hit to his midsection in the second quarter on an incompletion at the Colorado sideline.Coach Deion Sanders had no update after the game other than to say, the “first thing I heard is he’s going to be out a few weeks.”Hunter had played almost every snap for the Buffs this season, playing wide receiver on offense and cornerback on defense.“The bad thing about losing Travis,” said defensive back Shilo Sanders, “it’s like you’re losing two players at once.”The Rams were whistled for two fouls on the play that Hunter got hit. Safety Henry Blackburn was flagged for pass interference and nickel back A...Lee deja sin electricidad a decenas de miles de personas mientras trae fuertes vientos e inundaciones costeras a Maine y Canadá

BERLIN (AP) — German police said dozens of people, including at least 26 officers, were injured during unrest surrounding an Eritrean cultural festival in the southwestern city of Stuttgart.Shortly before the event was set to begin Saturday afternoon, around 200 protesters gathered in the area outside and began throwing stones, bottles, and other items at police officers and participants of the event. Six of the 26 injured police officers were treated in a hospital for their injuries, police said. Four event participants and two protesters were also injured, according to police, although information wasn’t immediately available about the severity of their injuries.Saturday’s protests were the latest in a string of unrest surrounding Eritrean cultural events in Germany and elsewhere. In July, a clash at an Eritrean festival in the western German city of Giessen left 22 police officers injured. A fight between Eritrean government supporters and opponents in Tel Aviv in early September...UN committee votes to list ruins of ancient Jericho as a World Heritage Site in Palestine

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — A U.N. conference voted Sunday to list ruins of the ancient West Bank city of Jericho as a World Heritage Site in Palestine, a decision likely to anger Israel, which controls the territory and does not recognize a Palestinian state.Jericho is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities on earth, and is in a part of the Israeli-occupied West Bank that is administered by the internationally recognized Palestinian Authority. The listing refers to the Tel es-Sultan archaeological site nearby, which contains ruins dating back to the 9th millenium B.C. The decision was taken at a meeting of the U.N. World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, under the auspices of the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO. Israel quit UNESCO in 2019, accusing it of being biased against it and of diminishing its connection to the Holy Land. Israel also objected to UNESCO’s acceptance of Palestine as a member state in 2011. But Israel remai...Golden Mushroom brand Enoki mushrooms recalled for possible Listeria contamination

MILAN (AP) — EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni toured Sunday a migrant center on Italy’s southernmost island of Lampedusa that was overwhelmed with nearly 7,000 arrivals in a 24-hour period this week.Tensions have spiked on the island in the days since, with residents expressing impatience with the constant flow of migrants trying to reach Europe from North Africa arriving on their shores, with occasional spikes, for decades.Television images showed Meloni speaking to islanders expressing their frustrations; she told them the government was working on a robust response, including 50 million euros ($53.4 million) to help the island. An unidentified person in the crowd said it wasn’t just money that they needed. New arrivals also have chafed at the long wait to be transferred to the mainland; TV footage on Saturday showed hundreds surging toward the gate as police used shields to hold them back. TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Police in a southern Chinese city said they have detained some staff at China Evergrande Group’s wealth management unit in the latest trouble for the heavily indebted developer.A statement by the Shenzhen police on Saturday said authorities “took criminal coercive measures against suspects including Du and others in the financial wealth management (Shenzhen) company under Evergrande Group.”It was unclear who Du was. Evergrande did not immediately answer questions seeking comment. Media reports about investors’ protests at the Evergrande headquarters in Shenzhen in 2021 had listed a person called Du Liang as head of the company’s wealth management unit.Evergrande is the world’s most heavily indebted real estate developer, at the center of a property market crisis that is dragging on China’s economic growth. The group is undergoing a restructuring plan, including offloading assets, to avoid defaulting on $340 billion in debt.On Friday, China’s national financial r...Karl W. Smith: Saving Medicare will never be easier than it is right now

Despite a robust economy, the U.S. budget deficit is poised to double over the next year — to an eye-watering $2 trillion. As bad as that sounds, things would be a lot worse if it weren’t for a surprising bright spot: health care costs, which have been growing more slowly than expected for more than a decade. It’s an odd situation that turns decades of Washington conventional wisdom on its head. People used to say that the key to deficit reduction was entitlement reform. Now entitlement reform seems possible — but only if people don’t try to bring the deficit into it.Rising health care costs were a constant source of budgetary pain for the public and private sector alike for decades. Between 2010 and 2020, however, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that Medicare spending was nearly $1 trillion less than originally projected. Economists and health experts have theories, but no one is quite sure why. After a brief spike upward because of COVID-19, t...Word Game: Sept. 17, 2023
